Tonsil stones......how can you get rid of them?

I used to have these and once and a while I would go for some time without getting them but in the end they always came back. I ended up getting my tonsils removed and now never have to deal with them again. Also I don't get sick as often as I used to get Strep Throat a lot but no more.
