EAR INFECTION...help!!?

My wife's ear was original muffled..and look like a normal ear ... she went to the doctor...the doc said it was a ear infection. She was put on antibodies. It didn't go away and it start to grow on the external part of her ear. She went back and got oral and stronger ear drop antibodies. She never had discharge before and now she is having it. Is this part of the healing process, of making your ear better???????????
